The Underline is a 10-mile-long multimodal corridor that stretches from the Miami River in Brickell to the Dadeland South Metrorail station. The corridor reimagines the space underneath Miami’s elevated Metrorail tracks.

Brickell Backyard is the first phase of The Underline, located at the northernmost portion. This section starts at the Miami River and extends half a mile south to SW 13th Street. The design is organized by a procession of rooms—the River Room, Gym, Promenade, and Oolite Room—each articulated with a unique program that responds to its immediate context and to the needs of the local community.

Exhaustive scouting and two days shooting, chasing light and activity up and down this initial stretch of the corridor, produced the photography in the gallery. Continuous deep collaboration through all phases with FO’s director of communications, and project partner, were crucial to digest the enjoyably overwhelming site, and landing on this thorough and targeted image set. A handful of the photographs were contracted specifically to document Order’s wayfinding efforts throughout the site.
